Obituary

Geraldine (Gerry) Frost, 85, passed away on December 9, 2020, after a lingering illness, at L’Chaim Hospice, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was the loving and devoted wife of Samuel (Sam) Frost. They shared 65 years of marriage together.Born in New York City (Brooklyn), New York, Gerry was the daughter of Jack and Marian (Chalfin) Kafka. She graduated from Glen Cove High School in 1952. For 40 plus years, Gerry and Sam owned and operated Florida Sunshade Company, a wholesale umbrella and patio furniture business, in Oakland Park, Florida.Following her family’s Jewish faith, Gerry and Sam were among the founders and long-time members of Temple Beth Israel, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She loved to eat chocolate, ice cream, pizza, and cherries.Gerry’s hobbies were drawing sketches of Disney Characters (Mickey Mouse, a favorite), sewing, scrapbooking, crocheting, reading mystery and romance novels and watching movies (especially Agatha Christie and Danielle Steel), doing puzzles, going to the casino to play the slot machines for fun, and collecting dolls. She found pleasure tending to her Gardenias, Jasmine, and house plants and making all kinds of crafts for family and friends. Her home is filled with hand creations of fabric covered furniture, window covered curtains, and color coordinated quilts with matching crocheted afghan blankets. Gerry made extra afghan blankets and donated them to charitable organizations. Handmade with much love and care, she sewed classy clothing, quilted comforters, and decorated her home with family photos.Gerry enjoyed being a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. To Sam, she was always “My Bride,” “a great lady,” and “a gift from G-d.” As a devoted wife and best friend, Gerry taught Sam how to love and delighted in holding hands and simply sitting next to her partner. She had a natural beauty, a gentle, pleasant, and quiet spirit, and a light-hearted sense of humor. When Gerry laughed, no sound would come out of her mouth, her whole body shook, and then the sound of laughter was heard. Watching her laugh made you join her even if you had no clue why she was laughing. Gerry was gracious, thoughtful, loving, and a great listener. She had a way of making people feel special and putting people at ease from the start. She did so much for her family and friends. Gerry had lifelong friendships. In her 1952 high school yearbook, friends wrote “Softness and sweetest innocence she wears,” “…ready smile for all…a good friend…soft-spoken…” Gerry was a gem to her husband, family, and friends and well-loved by all who were fortunate to be in her presence.Gerry is survived by her husband, Sam Frost, her children, Dean Frost (Cindy), Barry Frost (Celia), and Michele Frost-Bromberek (Gene), and her grandchildren, Sara Frost (daughter of Dean and Cindy) and Nathan Frost (son of Barry Frost and Chrisy Greco), and her siblings, Saralee Winter (Bernard, deceased), Helen Breslau (Niles), and Alan Kafka (Randy) and many nieces and nephews. Gerry was predeceased byher son, David Frost, and her parents, Jack and Marian Kafka. The family wishes to thank Rabbi Randy Kafka for officiating the beautiful Zoom funeral service and everyone who helped with making this possible. The family feels much gratitude for all of the people who attended Gerry’s funeral in person and on Zoom. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, Gerry. Your family and friends love you and will hold you dearly in their hearts and minds forever.Interment was December 11, 2020, at Temple Beth El Memorial Gardens, Davie, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in memory of Geraldine Frost, to any one of the following organizations:

When I graduated high school in 1999, Geri gave me an afghan she had knitted. I call it the magic blanket, because even though it's small and seems pretty thin, it always keeps you warm. I slept with that blanket for 20 years, and now, my 6 year-old daughter, Tiferet, sleeps with it. In fact, she refuses to sleep with any other blanket, and like me, also calls it the "magic" blanket. Thanks for keeping 2 generations of Glassmans warm through the dark, cold nights.

The times that we went to Fort Lauderdale to visit Sammy and Geri, the feeling was always one of a very comfortable and enjoyable visit with a truly close family. We always felt welcomed and truly ‘family’. Geri was very quiet but a strong person to put up with all of us. She will be truly missed.

Sam, Dean, Barry, Michele and families, We (Stewart family) were all so very sorry to hear of the passing of such a beautiful soul. I have so many memories of her. I still have embroidered bibs she made for my kids. I would always stop to see Sam and Gerry at Florida Sunshade whenever I visited my parents. Gerry always had gifts for us. She will be truly missed. Our deepest sympathy and condolences. Many hugs and prayers to all of you. Sincerely, Toni, Debbie, and The Stewart family
